Wadi Rum

Wadi Rum, the Valley of the Moon.

Situated some 70 km north-northeast from Aqaba, the dry riverbank of River Rum is undoubtably one of the most beautiful desert landscapes in the world. Sand dunes of incredible color and fascinating rock formations vary the landscape. The shapes were carved mainly by the irregular but heavy rainfalls while the neverseizing wind give the fine details.

This harsh, nevertheless beautiful place is home to the Bedouins, who have extensive knowledge of the desert. You can discover the desert on foot, by hiring a camel, or by fourwheel drive car, but should keep in mind that without guidance the vast desert might as well be dangerous.

Climb up onto a sand dune, try camelback riding, or visit the well and campsite of Lawrence of Arabia, the Nabateus rock carvings, or any of the breathtakingly beautiful rock bridges. Protect yourself against the sun by wearing a hat or shawl and drink plenty of fluids! Do not forget that the night will bring low temperatures. A night in the desert in an authentic Bedouin tent will give you an experience of a lifetime.

Hammamat Main Petra

Wadi Rum being located between Aqaba and Petra, a two-day trip is advisable to visit the two sites combined together thus saving you time and extra kilometers. Starting from Aquaba, you can spend the night in Obied's camp at the end of your desert tour, and by taking the advantage of the proximity, an early start will allow you to arrive in Petra before the heat and the crowd of tourists.
